Hi
Thanks for all the great work you do here, sorry to lumbar you with this one but my head is about to explode.
Both my wife and myself are under retirement age, both in ESA support group indefinately and both PIP standard care, high mobility.

First started with a benefit calculator, both getting contribution base ESA, calculator also adsvised income related ESA which we don't get. Tried to find out about it and got befuddled, hope you can explain in words of one sylable please.

I have read on here about Disability Premiums, so tried looking into whether we qualified, ended up with fried brain syndrome. Is there a dummies guide ? or can you explain simply to a dummy
Thanks

The first thing you need to do is confirm that you are eligible for Income Related ESA, this will depend on household income, assets and savings and for completeness any hours that your partner works.

The Premiums are only paid if you are eligible for ESA(IR).

I can't give you a definitive statement but based on your post I would have expected you to be entitled to 2 x Severe Disability Premium, couples Enhanced Disability Premium and one of you should be able to claim Carers Allowance for the other which would add the Carers Premium.

David/Gordon -

Please forgive my lack of reply. I lost my internet connection part way through answering and, by the time I got back, had forgotten what I was doing

Thanks Gordon
Nothing to forgive Mrs Hurtyback

without figures. which are all base rates.
As a couple, we lost everything in a house fire 10 years ago. We do own our home and no other assets but have no savings, fluctuating bank account up to £1000. Neither of us are working or can work. Our only income is PIP and ESA contribution rate. We do get council tax relief.

If indeed I can claim EAS(IR) will this trigger any other review ?
How do I find out if I can claim ?

Thanks for your patience

Ask the DWP for an ESA3 form which captures information about your financial situation, the form says reassessment but it means financial reassessment none of your of your claims should be effected by your doing this.

You should also investigate the possibility of back dating these payments although you may have to fight for it, especially as it could be a large amount. It may help if you get face to face advice from a trained advisor.
