I can't answer Q3 of disability PIP form

Regarding Q3, Preparing Food, in the How Your Disability Affects You form on page 10: if you cannot cook at all, even with an aid or appliance, you're supposed to get 8 points. But Q3a does not have a tick box to cover this situation. It asks 'do you need to use an aid or appliance' and the only answers you can tick are 'yes', 'no', or 'sometimes'. They all seem to imply that you can cook.

So I haven't ticked any of them. Above the Q3a heading I have written 'N/A: Even with an aid or appliance I cannot cook.' And I have repeated this statement at Q3c. But I am concerned that I will be penalized for not ticking a box at Q3a. Maybe the form will be scanned and a computer will log that I failed to answer the question?

It's OK to mark the tick boxes as "see below" and answer in the comments box or attached pages, the important thing is that you do answer the question.

To correct you it is not just an aid that is being looked at but whether help from someone else would allow you to complete the activity, this is the same for all of the PIP activities.

You must explain why the use of an aid or prompting, assistance, or supervision from someone would not allow you to prepare and cook a meal.

Be aware that (f) sets a very high standard, there is also a change of phraseology from "prepare or cook a simple meal" to "cannot prepare and cook food".

Thanks Gordon.

Help from someone else is covered separately in Q3b and unlike Q3a there is no ambiguity about the 'I cannot cook at all' scenario because it asks 'do they prepare all your food for you'.

What do you mean by "(f)" please? And can you explain your point about phraseology? I can only find the "prepare or cook a simple meal" phrase.

Thanks,

Sam
