Change in health status. was created by Milly
Hi there,
I'm new to this forum and wondered if anyone could offer advice regarding advising DWP about a change in health status since my being awarded standard rate PIP, June 2016. Because I have read mixed reviews regarding the benefit of informing DWP that a person's health status has deteriorated, I am wondering whether or not it would be worthwhile?

I was originally awarded because I have osteoarthritis and,at the time of award, was awaiting confirmation of a diagnosis for CFS. Since that time I have been diagnosed with CFS and in December 2016 with Fibromyalgia Syndrome. My symptoms are markedly worse since I applied.

I suppose I'm wondering if I should just carry on until my review in 2018 or ask for a review. This is the first time I have claimed benefit so am a little in the dark I'm afraid. If anyone could advise I would be grateful.

Kind regards.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I can't tell you not to notify the DWP is your conditions have worsened but they are usually not bothered if the claimant fails to tell them of a deterioration.

Although you have new conditions it does not automatically mean that you would qualify for an increased award, but you might. I would have a good read of our PIP Claim guide

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

to see if you can score the extra points that you need, mark yourself harshly as the DWP undoubtedly will.

Reporting a change will result in a full reassessment of your claim, a new PIP2 and almost certainly a face to face assessment. If you want to go ahead then write to the DWP office dealing with your claim to tell them of the change.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.
