Home visit was created by babydragon
I was surprised yesterday by a phone call from Works and Pensions. The man whose name I didn't catch asked me to confirm security questions and then explained that he had a cancellation on Friday and that if I was going to be at home could he visit to discuss my claim for PIP to get it done with sooner rather than later. I was actually in bed as I am currently suffering a chesty cold and could not keep warm on that day so I declined his suggestion. He didn't argue and simply said I would be sent an appointment letter and wished me to get well soon.
My question is, was that normal I thought I had to go to them not the other way round and I also thought it was more about having a medical than a discussion.
Has anyone else experienced this.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Kathleen,
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
It sounds as if the assessment provider has accepted that your problems are such that you should have a home visit. This is less common but not rare.
The assessment will not be a 'medical' in any accepted sense of the word. What to expect on the day is explained in our PIP guide.
PIP help for claimants
May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too

Hi
The point of the assessment is to match your level of capability to the relevant descriptor. The DWP don't care what your medical, physical or mental conditions are, they want to put what you are capable of in a pre-defined box
