I've asked them why they can't just reinstate my ESA, but they insist they can't while the JSA claim is still live (which isn't correct as you've said). However, they seem to be having trouble closing the JSA, my husband first asked them to at the end of January, and has asked again since, and it's still open
I would escalate the problem to a manager, this will require a call back and I would also consider making a formal complaint and list any financial hardship or charges that you have received as a result of your ESA being stopped.
Complaining to the DWP

Thank you so much for all the advice, without this site I wouldn't have known where I stood, and would have believed their incorrect information and thought I wasn't entitled, and would have had to reapply for ESA.

I didn't go down the route of making a formal complaint, had it gone on longer I might have done. I forgot to ask for written confirmation that they had made an error, and that they were reinstating my claim, I meant to do that.

Glad it has been sorted out. When they muck it up they like to do it in style.
