Gordon,
Thank for this information.
One thing that you have clarified is that there is no requirement for someone to wear TWO hearing aids. This is what DWP have been saying to me over the phone on two occasions so it is very clear from this that I have given false information and whether is is deliberate or not only they know.
One thing I would like to know is that if someone requests something in writing from the DWP do they have an obligation do so? In have written to them twice now regarding this discrepancy in my case and in each letter I have made it clear to that I would like an explanation writing rather then over the telephone because of my hearing problems I do not always hear clearly and get things muddled up an also I have a significant problem with memory loss so I tend to forget what has been said. However, DWP are refusing to provide anything in writing stating that this not in their policy unless I ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration.
What is the law on requests in writing?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

The DWP have a general obligation to respond to claimant letters, but there are no timescales set and I am quite sure that the reality is that many letters go unanswered.
In regard to issues related to a Decision, there is a legally defined process, if you have written and not indicated that you are requesting or that it is connection with Mandatory Reconsideration then I would not expect the DWP to reply to you.
If it is in regard to an MR then the DWP will only reply when a Decision on the MR is made.
