I'm just wondering, ( and worrying ) after reading about so many dreadful assessments for both esa and pip..including my own .how many assessments are actually carried out professionally with people getting the awards they are entitled to?

There must be some honest and fair HCPs out there surely ?

Hi June,

The problem with sites like this is that they tend to attract people who are discontent - either with the way the assessment was carried out and/or the final decision.

We do hear of people who had their assessments carried out in a professional and fair manner (my own ESA assessments are an example of this) but it is human nature to make more noise when we are unhappy about something and to quietly get on with our lives when we are happy.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

June,

I have had a two assessments. The PIP one was done by a physiotherapist. I was dreading it. He was professional and friendly. Lasted about 40 mins.......bit like a driving test it seemed to go a lot quicker. Most of the report was accurate and fair, and I got the award I hoped for. There were a couple of minor bloopers - ie said my vision was good and I didn't wear glasses, which isn't correct, I do, but not on the day - so an incorrect assumption but nothing that affected me.

My E.S.A assessment was done by a doctor. And she was thorough! went through everything, but in a good way. It lasted well over an hour. It wasn't how I would like to spend an hour of my life - bit like a dreaded job interview - but she was doing her job. She wasn't nicey nicey and chatty, but she was polite and respectful. She gave away nothing, just said her report would be sent to DWP that afternoon and it would be their decision and it would take 4-6 weeks.

A couple of weeks later I got the copy of the assessment (that I had requested). She missed nothing! - it was a 100% accurate report. No lies, no omissions. She had gone into some depth with the detail of my limitations. As a result I got a better than anticipated award.

Hi June
My wife, myself and my friend all had positive and "pleasant" assessments. It is important, if you have a long term condition, to remember all the things that affect you that, you have found ways to compensate for and include these for assessment. Unfortunately, in their attempt to remove the non deserving, the DWP have made it harder for the deserving to get the help they so badly need. The scroungers that cheated under the old system are well versed in lying and cheating and will continue to do so. With all my heart I wish that all deserving people get the support they need and that the excellent work by the mods here help to right some of the wrongs.
