Pip mobility question was created by Paul Stanworth
I've just had my face to face assessment and I've got my brown letter back within 2weeks they've dropped me to Standard from high on both on my letter it says I can plan and follow a route ( he made it to assessment it said ) but my wife took me as I don't drive . I can't get on a. Bus as if the disabled seats are gone I can't stand or sit in any other seat as I can only bend my leg so far and nowhere near enough to get it under seat infront? I also Have to travel a 60 mile round trip when I need to go to Hospital this is. Because I suffer from mild Haemophilia and this is the nearest Centre for my treatment I case I get any nocks or bleeds ? So I strongly need my car to get around to appointments and socially? Would welcome feedback please

I've moved your post to it's own topic we ask members not to post their questions in other members topics as it can lead to the wrong advice being given or taken.

Was this a transfer from DLA to PIP or a reassessment of an existing PIP claim?

PIP Mobility looks at four areas, three in the Going Out activity and one for Moving Around.

The Going Out activity looks at;.

Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity. You are being asked about the problems you would have with working out how to get from one place to another, you do not need to be able to follow the route that you are planning..

Undertaking a Journey - this is do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with you leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop you doing this. You need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.

Following a route - the DWP regard this as a cognitive or sensory activity to do with navigating the route, SO are there problems that would prevent you from doing this? This is different from undertaking a journey, in fact if you cannot undertake a journey then you will struggle to score points for following one.

and the Moving Around Activity considers your ability to stand and then move (walk).

You say your award has dropped to Standard, how many points did you score and what for?

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Yes Gordon this was a transfer from DLA to PIP ? My Mobility just had two activities Planning and following a journey which I scored 0 points and the next was moving around which I got 10 points? That was because I could stand then move using an aid or appliance more than 20 m but not more than 50m ? When I got my decision the nurses report is in amongst the reasons for her decision and it says I said I have difficulty planning and following journeys ,she says that I planned the journey to get to the assessment Centre, even though she asked how I got there and my wife was Sat with me I told her I can't drive so my wife plans all the journeys to get me to appointments ? Look forward to hearing from you ?

You won't score points in the Going Out activity for physical issues such as problems bending your knees.

I'm confused by the assessment report, the result suggests that the assessor thought you would have no problems planning a route, but your quote suggests the opposite.

You won't score points for things that you do not do (my wife plans all the journeys), only things that you cannot do.

Don't really get what I can't do Gordon ? If I got an appointment somewhere I've never been I would panic and not know how to get to a place or who could definitely get me there because I couldn't always rely on public transport? Or as ime not very mobile how long it would take me to get there
