FunkyDudley wrote: Can I please ask, can we be forced to close our post office account? I only became aware of the post office account when I had to change from my IB book to a PO account. Then IB became ESA then I was awarded ESA (WRAG) for 2yrs in nov 2012 (but DWP failed to inform me that in April 2013 they had changed the rules again!! So my benefit was only payable for 365 days) so in December 2013 I went to get money to find there was none. I will write up all the issues Upto date in another post but for now I just need to know I can say "No" and continue with my PO account.

There may come a time where the DWP are no longer able to pay your benefits into your Post Office account, apparently it is very expensive for them to do this so they are phasing the facility out, this won't happen for some time and the Post Office do have other accounts (that conform to banking requirements) that you could switch to.

I find it very frustrating that they want us to make a change but DO NOT give a reason.
Are you saying I can stay with the post office and they have a bank account of sorts I can change to and won't have to change again or are the DWP eventually going to drop the post office?
Kind regards

As I said in my previous post, the Post Office do have accounts that meet the requirements to be classed as a bank account.
