Pip assessment. was created by Kirsteen
Hi, this is my first time on here, I've been on dla many years high mobility, middle care. I have a face to face assessment on Friday 24th for PIP now that I'm 65 (Aug 2016), I'm not sure what to say if they ask me why I have never reported to the DWP that my symptoms have worsened over the years! I'm a very private person and don't like a fuss or to ask for more as I've always been grateful for what I've received, I feel it would be like running to the Dr every week with a new pain if that was the case I would never be away from the surgery. I've read so many horror stories about PIP and I'm really upset about all this, I think arthritis of any sort gets worse with age and I just never thought of asking for more as I believed that the high care was for very seriously sick bedridden people. I'm at a loss as how to answer these people. Thankyou,

Higher Rate Care for DLA can only be awarded if the claimant has care needs both day and night, no matter how bad their problems are, so if you only have care needs during the day or the night you could not have received a higher award, so there would have been no value you in your reporting a deterioration.

Hi Kirsteen
without knowing your circumstances, be aware that the criteria for High mobilty DLA are different to PIP enhanced rate mobility. As you are approaching retirement age, this assessment will determine your mobility needs for the future, if the descriptors that apply to you only qualify for standard rate you will not be granted enhanced rate in the future should your needs change
