PIP Assessment was created by Rosemarie Hyland
I attended my PIP assessment today in Newcastle , I had sat telling the assessor that I am diabetic , I have hypo's which come on suddenly . I also suffer feelings of extreme weakness which again come on at the blink of an eye , I also suffer dizziness side effects from my medication and I suffer from Vertigo which also comes on in the blink of an eye .
During the assessment I told the assessor who informed me she was a nurse that I was in pain . when I got up to leave I was shaking an d felt utterly weak as if I could not have picked up a feather , suddenly my legs turned to jelly and if my daughter and the fact I had my rollator with me , I would have ended up on the floor , but I managed to sit back down an d the assessor asked me if I would like a drink of water to which I replied yes please , she left the room and came back with some water , she said there was no hurry she had a few minutes before her next client , I felt a little better after the walker so got back up and started to walk out to the corridor a matter of a few steps , the assessor went ahead of us to open the main exit door , however my legs again turned to jelly and I collapsed onto the seat of the rollator . The assessor watched my daughter steadying me then walked past us and told us just to push the green green to exit the building as she walked away ....
My daughter got me into the car and gave me a sweet high in sugar and drove me quickly home . On arriving home I tested my blood and my sugar levels had dropped and I was indeed having a hypo , yet the assessor a nurse so she told me walked away and just left me , the receptionist was also present yet offered no help of any sort . Shocking and I am very angry and will be lodging a complaint .

I have just had a telephone from Capita. She was to give me a date for an assessment for PIP in one of their centers. I told her that because of my illnesses; parkinsons, athritis, sciatica, depression, I wanted a home visit. She then said that I need a letter off my GP stating that because of my condition I cannot travel to an assessment center.
Is she right?
I started PIP in April 2015 and had a home assessment with no letter from my GP and was awarded high care and high mobility until April 2018. Thats over 12 months away.
Why are they wanting to assess me now?

I'm afraid, at the moment it is almost impossible to get a home assessment without a GP's letter and as they have offered you one at their offices, you will now only get one by your GP writing to Capita to explain why you cannot attend at their offices.

Nearly all PIP awards are being reassessed a year in advance of the award ending.

This sounds like the nurse has failed to meet the ethics and conduct required by the Nursing & Midwifery Council. If you believe that the nurse's treatment was not aceptable you can make a formal complaint to the NMC.

If you request a copy of the assessment report the assessors name will be on the form.
