ESA and WCA queries was created by HSClohessy
Hi,
Thanks to your terrific guide I transferred successfully for DLA to PIP. I am currently in the ESA Support group, to my horror within a week of being notified that my PIP claim was successful, I was sent a Capability for Work questionnaire.
I thought, as I was in the Support group, my G.P. had to be contacted by the DWP, prior to me receiving the questionnaire. My G.P. hasn't been contacted by the DWP, are the DWP following correct procedure sending me the form without contacting my G.P.?
Do I send a copy of my PIP award with my completed Capability for Work questionnaire? Is it ok for me to type up my answers?
I am reading your 'Employment & Support Allowance guide, I've assumed it's the same guide for people such as myself in the Support group and for people claiming ESA for the first time?

I'm afraid there is no requirement for the DWP to contact your GP, whether you are in the SG or not.
You can send a copy of your PIP award, but for it to have any effect you must show how it relates to the ESA activities. Even where there are areas of overlap the criteria can still be different.
All ESA reassessments should be treated as a new claim.
If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Hi Gordon,
Thanks very much for your very helpful answers.
Would it be detrimental to my claim to have my answers typed? I'm concerned about this, because as I'm sure you're aware there is a question on writing and typing.

It is perfectly OK for you to type your answers and attach them as extra pages to the ESA50, just make sure that each page has your full name and NIN at the top and that they are numbered, we recommend "page X of Y" so that it is easy to see if pages are missing. Make sure you clearly mark on the form where your answers are and on the relevant page that you are answering question X.
Attach the pages to the back of the ESA50 using a staple or make a hole in the top left corner and use a treasury tag, string or ribbon to the form. The pages need to be easily detached so that they can be scanned by the DWP.
