ESA Contribution based benefit was created by ChrissieRox
Help, please.
Last year I was transferred from Incapacity benefit to Contribution based ESA Work Related Activity Group, I went to Appeal and was advised on 19th January that the Appeals Officer had revised the decision and that the new decision was a more favourable one. I heard nothing from DWP so contacted my local Job Centre Plus Office who advised that I had been placed in the Support Group so would continue to receive my benefit for at least the next 3 years. I have today received a letter from DWP advising that I will only receive my benefit until 30th June 2017 as my claim is Contribution based! If I had originally been placed in the Support Group my Contribution based benefit would continue past the 365 days for at least next 3 years. As I have now been transferred to the Support Group why do I not now continue to get my benefit beyond the 365 days?

Welcome to the forum.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

They can't have it both ways! Either you are in the Support Group in which case you are entitled to ESA(CB) or you are not in the SG in which case your ESA(CB) is time limited.

As you appealed the decision made when you were transferred to ESA from IB and this placed you in the SG, then you should be classed as having been in the SG from the date of transfer and as a consequence you should still have the full 365 days available.

However, this is moot as your being in the SG means that the clock does not tick for the 365 days and you are entitled to ESA(CB) as long as you remain in the group.

I would contact them back and if get the same rubbish from them then ask for the matter to be escalated to a manager, this will require a call back.
