pip award was created by denise
Hi to the mods i have heard today when my husband phoned the DWP that my son has been awarded high care and standrd mobility but what im not happy with is it has only been awarded for 3 years where as i have always had a longer award for him in the past because of the serious nature and his needs of this mental illness Is it up for a challenge on the 3 years as he is never going to get better as his doctor has said it is a life long illness.and i think it should have been assessed as such.

Well congratulations on the award if not the length of it.

The award length is part of the Decision and if therefore open to challenge, but we have not seen a member successfully do this. Also you need to be aware that even if you only ask for the length of the award to be looked at the DWP will look at the whole award, whilst it rare for them to remove points, it does happen and you must consider the risk to your current award before proceeding.

If you do decide to go ahead then the first stage is to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this need to be submitted within one month of the Decision, in writing to the DWP dealing with the claim. The PIP Appeal guide has more details and the PIP area has template letters that you can use to make the request.
