Rapid reclaim query was created by Ellie H
Hello, I'm new here so bear with me.
Until Sept I was in the support group for ESA and also got DLA. My tranference from DLA to PIPS was fortunately painless. But my problem was in Sept I went into a real high stage of bipolar and signed off without telling my docotor or mental health team, I wanted to take on all sorts of crazy schemes, I felt I was better but in fact I was just manic. I hitched up with a company who gave me a 6 month part time contract paying me £150 a week but very quickly realised I was not up to doing the work, I cracked very quickly under the pressure, but they were rather lovely and just continued to pay me despite me messing everything they gave me up, as they knew I was only temporary. They said it went against their policy to sack me as they didn't want to open themselves up to any problems with DWP saying they'd discrimiated so in a nutshell they've just paid me until I slink away. My contract ends on March 31st, I'm literally doing nothing for them, (the idea was that I'd do marketing for them from home). So my question is.........a friend who looks out for me contacted ESA and they said there's a possibility I could do a rapid reclaim as 6 months falls in the 28 weeks, but they have sent out an origianal form. Is this the form to fill in as I understand doing the rapid reclaim doesn't ask quite so many questions? I'm sorry for going all round the houses here but just wanted to give you all the facts. Thank you.

I am afraid your friend is mistaken about the 28 weeks.

You can only make a re-claim if you do so within 12 weeks of your original ESA claim being closed.

If it is more than 12 weeks, which appears to be the case, then it is a new claim from scratch. This may also mean that you can no longer make a claim for Contribution Based ESA, if you received this previously as you will need to re-meet the Contribution Conditions.

If you are going to make a new claim for ESA then you should do so before 3 April as from this date there will be changes to the payment of the WRAG rate for new claimants.

Hi Gordon, that is strange because I actually rang ESA helpline and it was the advice they gave me about 28 weeks. I will ring again tomorrow but appreciate your reply, I can see this is going to be a tricky one.
