PIP -For reasons other than psychological distress was created by robin.ord14@btinternet.com
Hi,
I’m confused as to how the phrase for reasons other than psychological distress is not considered contradictory when the descriptors are in the Mental Health Section.
If this new descriptor phrase prevents qualification, I’m struggling to see how anyone with a mental condition could qualify for standard rate mobility.
For example : In what circumstances typically would someone with complex PTSD & OCPD be able to qualify for standard rate mobility, in other words would you need to detail that the conditions are recognised & diagnosed mental illnesses requiring ongoing consultant support, which produce physical symptoms making it unsafe to drive most of the time, especially unfamiliar journeys, or would this simply be defaulted to a psychological condition and therefore psychological distress.
Also, what would be the technical definition of psychological distress, would it be George Freemans definition of ‘people who are taking pills at home, who suffer from anxiety’ or anyone that has any Mental Health condition, or anyone with a temporary mental injury, or anything other than a recognised and diagnosed Mental Illness which requires ongoing support.
I am aware that the Government is trying to save money and get around the tribunal loss but this is baffling, as I get the impression that it’s like saying to someone with a mental health condition ‘complete the Mental Health section but as you have a Mental Health condition you won’t qualify’
Sorry if I have misunderstood
Thank you
Robin

The change applies only to Descriptors (c), (d) and (f).

Descriptors (b) and (e) are not affected and are targeted at claimants with mental health issues.
