Autism and the changes to PIP mobility was created by suemccaff
Baroness Smith (Labour Peer) was on the world at one today and said the changes to PIP mobility awards would affect those with autism and dementia. I thought it was to do with anxiety and mental health issues? Will those with autism be penalised as well?

The amended PIP Descriptors are very badly phrased so I don't doubt that there will be another round of UTT Decisions moving them away from the intentions of the DWP, but as they stand the DWP mean for Descriptors (c), (d) and (f) of the Going Out Activity to only be met by claimants with cognitive or sensory issues.

Thank you Gordon, I thought she was wrong when she also described autism as a mental health problem when of course its sensory. And she's on our side! I wish they'd think before they speak!

I was confused by this to as autism is defined as being a cognitive impairment /learning disability, rather than something like anxiety which is a mental illness.

I'm afraid you have misunderstood, when the DWP the refer to sensory then they mean blindness and deafness,.

Hi

Another question sorry. Does sensory include dizziness/balance problems or does that come under the moving around activity?
