PIP from DLA was created by pennygates
I have recently applied for PIP as my DLA (enhanced daily and standard mobility) had ended. I got together all my guides and put together an application. I also included three letters of support from my psychiatrist, an occupational therapist, and my care co-ordinator. I thought that my application stood a reasonable chance, although I wasn't over confident. I suffer from ME, Bi-polar disorder, severe osteoarthritis, and severe restles legs syndrome. I eventually received an appointment for a face to face. This was over very quickly with very little about my mental health. The result finally came and I had been awarded standard rate and no mobility at all. The Assessor claimed that I showed no signs of mental illness or depression and gave me no points at all. He said I had told him my bi-polar was controlled with medication. Yes, it is, but without it I would be hopeless. However it doesnt solve the problem! I still have daily problems, but he didn't want ro know. He said my arthritis was controlled by strong painkillers, morphine, so no problem there either. My partner had brought me but was suffering from flu and he has multiple myeloma, so stayed in the car as feeling ill. Even though I explained this he reported that I had come alone and must be ok. Many things I said were twisted. I was disappointed and I have applied for a mandatory reconsideration, but have little faith. With my husband being so ill I don't think I could cope with an Appeal. They made me out to be a fraud I think, took no notice of my letters of support from experts, and the fact that I am being treated and have been for many years for mental illness, all disregarded and replaced with a twenty five minute assessment from a paramedic, (very good people but not doctors).

Revision rates at MR are very low, so it may be that the DWP will not change their Decision, but turnover rates at appeal at far higher, over 60%, so you still have options.

I know there are lots of things in the report that are concerning you and you should address these but you will only receive an increased award by showing that you meet the criteria from one, so I would start by going through your PIP2, the assessment report and our PIP Claim guide to make sure that have show that you have met that criteria.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I can see that I need to focus on the descriptors, and trying to gain more points for my daily problems rather than getting wound up about what happened in the Assessment. If I can get some support to go forward to the Appeal I will try. I just think that I can't do it myself, so I might need to look to pay for welfare rights expertise, although I have no money. :(

You shouldn't have to pay for welfare rights help, but you may struggle to find it.

Do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.
