Confused New member with a ESA/PIP question

Hi forum,

Can anyone advise me regarding ESA/PIP?

I had a review very recently Jan 2017 of my PIP award (which was further approved) for another 3 years.

I have received yesterday an ESA50 form to be completed and returned within the month. It seems to be using mostly the same descriptors as the PIP.

One of my issues is mental stress and anxiety and this form is causing me a great deal of worry. If I have had my PIP re-assessed recently why do I have to go through this form all over. Do the ESA and PIP not talk to each other?

Any advice gratefully received.

J

There are very few areas of overlap between PIP and ESA and even where there are the criteria are very different.

It may be that those assessing you may use your PIP report to help them make a Decision on your ESA claim, but this will not excuse you from having to complete the ESA50 in detail and quite possibly having to attend a face to face assessment.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thanks Gordon,

It is hard when you are trying to move forwards and progress your recovery and feel like you have to re-invent the wheel every time.

So if they make a decision that varies from the PIP where does that leave you?

One more question, do I have to refer to my PIP or is it assumed that they automatically check the records?

Thanks

Even where they overlap, PIP and ESA have different criteria so it is perfectly possible to fail for one and to score for the other, so I would not worry to much about it, should it happen.

If you want them to consider something then it is our recommendation that you include it with your claim form, even if those assessing you have access to your PIP report, there is no requirement that they review it.
