PIP and Direct Payments was created by Alan
Hi all,
I am sat waiting for the dreaded thump as the PIP form arrives t my door. Can anyone advise as to whether Direct Payments can be used against my care package on DLA.
At the moment I pay towards, and the local council pay towards, a care package which allows me to employ a carer for a couple of hours each day.
I also get medium care package.
Now i am aware that the care package is now either high, low or none with PIP, but i was hoping there might be someone else that has had this problem.

Many thanks
Alan

Yes DLA can be treated as income when calculating a Direct Payment claim, it is usually restricted to the Care component only, although I am not sure that the Mobility one is specifically excluded.

If you have HRC, which covers day AND night care, then you can argue only part of the payment should be included, if you are only receiving day OR night care under the Direct Payments.

Your PIP claim will not be affected by your Direct Payments, it is not considered, however, the fact that you are receiving DP would be evidence that you could include in your PIP claim.

Hi Alan,

From my experience and knowledge I was dealing with an elderly relative who needed care and Council was providing DP to pay the carer. These DP was used for carers wages only as we had to provide full bank statements every 3 months to the Council. I don't know if this what you are asking
