I've received a letter from the DWP today and inclined was a Esa3 form. I've been in the support group for 3 years and in March I completed an ESA50 form.

There was a coving letter with the esa3 for. Stating that I had been placed in the support group and that they had encoded the esa3 for in case I wanted to apply for income support.

I'm a bit baffled as to why the would send me an esa3 for when I'm in the contribution based support group. I have phone and I was told it was I case my circumstances change.

I haven't had a letter responding to my ESA50 form yet to say that I have been placed in the the support group.

Can you possibly shed any light on why the DWP would send me this form

Many thanks

I should have said that when I phone they confirmed that I was place in the contribution based support group and the guy on the phone told me not to bother completing the form unless my circumstances change. I really don't know what he meant by that

Having been placed in the SG you are entitled to the Enhanced Disability Premium, if you are also entitled to Income Related ESA, the ESA3 allows the DWP to check whether you are or not.

ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

Hi Thanks for the info.
I have now received my conformation that I have been placed in the support group based on my contributions. So that great news and thank you all at the B&W for all they help I have recieved. I don't think I would had been successful if it wasn't for B&W. so again a massive "Thank you".

I sorry to ask again but can I just clarify. I'm in the support group based on my NI contubutions but are you saying that I can still claim income related ESA as a premium?

Yes you can receive an ESA(IR) top up to your ESA(CB) if you meet the eligibility conditions for the ESA(IR).
