I have been diagnosed to have a genetic neurological progressive brain disease called
Ataxia-2/SCA2, late onset disease in 2011/ 52 yrs old now, that causes the cerebellum to degenerate/loss of brain neurons in this region so causing a progressive loss of capability.
Ataxia is the name given to a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination, and speech. For example, my balance is very poor-cant move liquid thing like a tea cup without spilling the liquid because I have become wobbly, problems with walking, lost my ability to write but can make a mark on paper, up/down stair is dangerous for me so take a lift, walking is a problem because I stumble and have to stop because I need to regain my balance and recover.
I have a small tremor in my left hand which comes & goes, comes when trying to press a button and I slur my speech and find it hard to speak a long sentence as it becomes jumbled up. I am finding I have to go to the toilet at lot to pass urine.

The condition can be viewed as Parkinson's, gets worse with time, please help as your guides don't cover brain genetic diseases when applying for ESA support group.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

ESA does not directly consider the conditions that the claimant has but rather the limitations that result from those conditions, that's why the guide does not go into detail about any specific disability or condition.

SO you need to map your limitations onto each of the ESA activities and explain the problems that you would have in completing them. For example you mention that you can no longer write; this would come under the Manual Dexterity activity.

The guide explain the criteria for being placed in the Support Group, there are three routes; you meet the Exemption conditions, you meet a Descriptor or you qualify under Substantial Risk. You only need to meet one of these conditions to be placed in the SG.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.
