I/B esa and disability premiums

I am in receipt of contribution based ESA. I also get both elements of PIP at standard rate. I am aware of disability premiums, but am struggling to make sense of them. I wasn't eligible to claim because of an adult daughter living with me, who has now moved out.

Do you have to be in receipt of income based ESA before they will assess you.

Or, do they assess the amount you need to live on by including the premium amount, to reach a minimum income figure.....then they assess you, looking at all sources of income, and award award IB if there is a shortfall.

any advice appreciated..

Providing you meet the eligibility criteria for the Premiums themselves then the DWP will check your eligibility for an ESA(IR) top-up based on you receiving the Premiums. ESA(IR) is will dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)
