Moving from esa to income support was created by sharon
Hi everyone,
this is my first post and I am looking for some advice regarding income support rates. I have been in the esa support group for some time and I have just received a letter telling me I have to attend a face to face assessment in the city centre despite my explaining in my reclaim forms that I could not travel into the city. Because my son is disabled and I claim carers allowance for him I am entitled to claim income support and I have made a claim for this instead. The memories I have from my last humiliating assessment in the most vile area in the city made me decide I would never go through such an experience again - even if they took my benefit away. The lady who took my IS claim over the phone could not tell me what rate I would receive and I have been unable to find out. I currently receive £97 a week esa (it used to be £125 but was reduced when I claimed carers allowance). I have researched income support premiums and I have worked out I am entitled to the disability premium because I claim pip, however I cannot claim enhanced disability premium because I am on standard rate pip, I also cannot claim the severe disability premium because my grown up daughter lives with me. So from what I have gathered I can claim the disability premium and the carers premium. Have I got this right? And does anyone know how much I will be awarded? I am presuming it will be less than what I was getting in the esa support group but I am still prepared to do that rather than attend a dehumanising humiliating face to face assessment.

I am going to recommend that you get face to face advice before you make any Decisions, speak to a trained advisor, they can calculate what you might receive if you switch to Income Support. Be aware that if your area is an active for Universal Credit then you will have to claim this in preference to IS, this may have different implications for you.

Do an internet search for "welfare advice" with you postcode, town or county.
