Extension for returning PIP form

Extension for returning PIP form was created by Spaceman
I only received my PIP form last Friday and have been unable to get an appointment with my GP at all this week. I'm also waiting for an appointment with an advisor to help me complete the form, so I won't be able to get it back to the DWP by 28 March.
I note the guide says they allow 28 days from the date of the notification letter to make the intial claim by telephone and that if this isn't done my DLA would be suspended for four weeks but if I started the claim within those four weeks, the suspension would be lifted.
However it doesn't seem to say anything about missing the date printed on the form for returning that, so I'm wondering whether there is any grace period for that?

There is no grace period, your form must be with the DWP by the required date, however, you can ask for a two week extension to the date it needs to be back by.

Well my Mum phoned them to ask for an extension today and they said their system showed it was due back by the 23 March, not the 28 March, so they only extended it to 6 April. After she checked with me and I confirmed that the form definitely says 28 March, she phoned them back and they still referred to 23 March but did eventually agree to extend it to 11 April, so I don't know if their systems are screwy or they've just been told to try and only grant 1 week extensions.

We got extension until the 23 April on the form it was due back on 28 March. It took the form 10 days to reach us as well. Whats going? Why does the extension vary so much?

It shouldn't and we have not seen any variation previously, it's a standard two weeks which can be authorised by the staff on the PIP helpline and a secondary two weeks which requires the involvement of a Decision Maker.
