Just like to say I'm appalled on your behalf too. I really believe that some of these so called assessors are not qualified for the job, and others are downright callous. My son who has about six major epileptic seizures a week, and clusters of up to ten per day, was told at his assessor that epilepsy wasn't that bad and her nephew had epilepsy and managed fine without help. We're at mandatory reconsideration stage at the moment as the so called health professional who interviewed him obviously hasn't the first clue about epilepsy. I expect my son to eventually win his claim, even if he has to appeal to the tribunal.

So please just try to keep going and stay as positive as you can manage in the circumstances. I hope you have family and friends you can call on for support in the meantime, and it may be a good idea to get a welfare rights worker to handle your claim.

Bottom line to bear in mind: the number of successful appeals shows the DWP gets it wrong most of the time.

That is shocking Cee Cee,I keeping reading on this wonderful site this from the mods..two people can have the same conditions but the DWP want to know how these condition/s effect your daily life, and conditions effect people in different ways.So please remember this and keep fighting for your sons rights..and I wish you well for the correct outcome.

Thanks knockveiw. I do feel quite worried about the effect the benefits process on my son. It's hard to keep him motivated because he finds the whole thing frustrating and humiliating, resenting the fact he has epilepsy.

He has had quite severe epilepsy since about 12 yo, and I've lost count of the times he's been in hospital, and all the drugs he's tried. We were even told he's at higher risk of SUDEP. So knowing the ordeals he's experienced, it makes me so angry for an ignorant so - called health professional to tell him that there's basically nothing wrong with him and its safe, for instance, for a person with unpredictable seizures to take a bath while alone in the house, or use public transport/negotiate busy roads without someone with him.

Why do we have to convince these incompetent assessors? Surely they should be fit for the job and have actual knowledge of the conditions they assess!!!
