Please can you help - my friend is disabled and claiming AA high rate. He is household, age related demacular disease, walks with a frame and pays for private carers, as wishes to remain living in his own home. Has a stairlift in situ. A hospital bed loaned from Social Services. Many grab rails and commode. The carers cook and prepare all is meals. And wash him. The eye consultant verifies he is in frail health. The carers help him to bed between 6-7 pm, ( at his request ). The carers get him up between 9.30 and 10 am, ( at his request ). He often falls asleep during the day in his recliner. In fact, he finds moving / walking such an effort. On applying for council tax support, he wants to back date his claim, but as you know, one has to give valid reasons for backdating. As a consequence, he is paying out a great deal for carers. He has Polymyalgia Rheumatica and is 78, though sadly looks 90. My question to you is - when applying for backdating council tax support, what reasons are considered as valid ? ( the claim is for " support ", not " reduction " ). With Many Thanks, J.
