Telephone Call from Atos was created by mobbba
I booked an appointment last week to see my GP to ask for a letter to request a home visit. Its on Thursday 23rd.

This morning Atos rang me at home and said there was a vacancy for a f2f this weekend, would I go?

I explained about my GP appointment and that I was hoping for a home visit. She said to send in the letter to the address where I sent my PIP2 form and they would put it on my file. Atos would then look at it.

I had been dealing recently with a person in my GP's surgery who has copied letters and reports for me. She rang me a short while ago, and told me that Atos had just spoken with her at the surgery. She said Atos asked if I had and appointment with my GP on Thursday. Atos also said that if I could attend and appointment at the surgery I could attend an assessment.

Could I have your thoughts please?

Thank you

Hi mobba,

I'm afraid that ATOS use this argument quite often :( It would help your case if your GP letter explained why you are able to attend the surgery but would not be able to go to an assessment centre.

Thank you Mrs Hurtyback

Will this go against me?

For 1 I have disabled parking right outside the front door of my GP.
I know where I am going and what to expect. I know my GP. I can talk to him and I am not good with people I do not mix well so seeing a stranger would be hard for me to open up to.

I made the appointment with my GP as last week because, my husband took me to the assessment centre in Leeds, so we had an idea where it was. Its in the centre of Leeds and there was no parking on any of the streets nearby. so walking from where ever would be impossible for me. There is also a really long ramp up to the front door.

I got stressed thinking if I had no one to go with me on the day, how I would manage.

I did put on my PIP2 form that I could not go alone to new places without having someone with me. in case I could not park or got lost or needed the toilet. I would not be able to ask for directions.

I don't know what to do now. Should I ring and go to appointment or should I just see my GP on Thursday?

It's extremely unlikely that you will get a home assessment without the GPs letter and I assume they won't give you one without seeing you. So I would raise the issue of your being able to attend at the surgery when you see them and ask them to reference this in their letter, why you can attend there but not at ATOS's offices.

I now have my GP's letter requesting a home visit. I posted this yesterday to DWP with Royal Mail Special Delivery so should be with them Monday.

In the meantime, today I got a letter from Atos informing me of an appointment 35 miles away from home. 05/04/2017

So Can I ask: Is 35 miles too far away according to DWP?
How long would it usually be for a home visit decision from DWP?
I am just worried that it might be near or after the appointment.
Should I cancel this appointment and rearrange or leave it till I hear?

Thank you so much again. I have all this going around in my head, I do not know what I would have done without your your minefield of information

The restriction is time not distance, so you cannot be asked to travel more than 90 minutes each way.

If ATOS have spoken to your GP and are opting for a home assessment then I would expect you to hear shortly, the only delay would be the production and sending of a new appointment letter.

I would not cancel the current appointment any earlier than the day before and I would certainly chase ATOS in the interim about the home assessment.
