Permitted work - support group - averaging? was created by Es*
I'm in the support group of ESA and have been offered a relatively well paid, low hours job with unreliable hours. Can pay be averaged, to comply with the maximum 'permitted work' limit, or is it absolute within a seven day period? If it cannot be averaged, what do I do; unclaim ESA and then reclaim the next week?!

If there is no regular work pattern then your wages can be averaged but this will need to be agreed in advance with the DWP.
Please be aware, whilst starting PW should not result in your claim being reassessed, it is something that can be considered when it is, you will need to provide clear evidence that the limitations that placed you in the SG are not compromised by the work that you are doing.

Thanks. Famous last words but I should be okay - I get 24 hour support and it's only that which will enable me to do this (with support), it's part time and I'll need at least double the rest time to the 'doing' time and some of it is at home, in bed, with my assistant assisting.

Famous last words, as they are the DWP, but I need help with all personal care and have a 24 hour assistant paid for by social services, and am a nearly full time wheelchair user, so I think I should continue to safely meet the ESA support group criteria.
So saying I go the other way - is it possible to claim tax credits when working less than 16 hours a week, when the payment is more than 16 x minimum wage, for that work? Perhaps I need to come off ESA and claim tax credits as well.

As far as I am aware you need to be working 16 hours or more to claim Tax Credits and for PW your hours must be less than 16 hours, so there is no crossover.,
But even if it were possible then you would be exceeding the PW Upper Earning Limit so you would lose your ESA.
