Income related ESA and inheriting a house

Hello,

First of all a big thank you to the moderators and those involved in this site for all the information you provide.

I have a couple of questions that I hope someone will be able to help me with.

I am already in receipt of Income Related ESA (Support group) and PIP. I am currently renting from a private landlord and receive housing benefit.

Supposing I inherit a house and choose to live in it as my home.

1. Would the house be disregarded for the capital limits for ESA and PIP?

2. Will the situation change when Universal Credit is introduced?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I need to emphasise that we cannot give detailed financial advice on the forum.

PIP takes no account of savings and assets.

For ESA, providing you are living in the house then it should not be counted as an asset and won't effect your ESA.

The rules for Universal Credit are the same as for ESA.
