Hi there,

I posted a few weeks back about writing the Mandatory Reconsideration letter for my partner. His mental disability (which he has a diagnosis for) was completely ignored during his assessment and the decision making process. We received the reply today following our mandatory reconsideration request and there is no change. They are still ignoring his mental disability despite the evidence provided. It was almost like a copy of the first letter. I am going to appeal it further but am wondering how I go about it? Do I send a copy of the letter I wrote requesting a mandatory reconsideration along with the SSCS1 as evidence of my reasons for appealing? Or do I put that we're appealing because his mental disability is not being taken into account?

I know providing more evidence is also important but there isn't any. He is severely dyspraxic and all the doctors say when we ask for any help is that it is let down by NHS and you are basically told to just get on with it. Our only option at the moment is to go private but I don't know if we can afford that.

You can do either of both for the SSCS1, it depends on what level of detail, if any, you intend to go into in your submission. You only need to provide basic reasons for the appeal on the form.

There's no requirement for new information or evidence in regard an appeal, the panel will start from scratch and review the information that you sent in and with the PIP2. That said, you should go through the DWP's bundle of information when you receive it to make sure that you have addressed all of the issue that they have raised.
