PIP assessments - losing all payments was created by Roisin Hudson
Got ATOS report. Supidly answered as a good day. Can drive manual car and follow preprogrammed Tom Tom voice instructions so no need for mobility payments. Spoke well, in own home, with hubby there, so no social issues or support needed. Again overall drop in points means no payments. Reality - usually driven, never try new place, rarely leave house, sleep every day, get easily confused (typically not that day). Basically when u live with MS u do not make a fuss, u excuse and justify problems, u don't complain. Really upset at myself and system and having self harming thoughts as not sure how to manage without car and financial support. Not physically able to work and can't get ESA as hubby works. Help

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Received formal letter and as expected all change.

I have relapsing remitting MS, and underative thyroid and depression. I do not moan and just get on with things. I do not bother the GP but do what my body tells me - sleep, not drive, get help for family with my children, take over the counter painkillers etc, I see my MS nurse every 3 months but do not report every single change (forget them as they come and go all the time).

Moved from enhanced mobility and care to nothing. I quote "you drive a manual car so despite demonstating reduced power in grip, it is adequate. You use a phone and text. You have no PRESCRIBED pain relief. You interacted well with good eye contact and normal facial expression with no cognative or memory problems". I indicated it was a good day. Got nothing for dressing. Usually dont and said do. Cant do up a bra! Can read complex info - had to give up work in 2014 as making so many mistakes and exhaustion - no zero points. Was safe in my own home with hubby there so did relax. Cannot go out without support, too stressful. I overcompensate when stressed and get very bubbly and hyper. This takes had huge tolll. I was in bed for two full days with husband and parents looking after me and the children. I use the car but rarely and only for local runs, Travel further (mentioned in report) but only with someone else - usually my mum as she is insured for my car. My husband has programmed traffic directions into my phone so that it can direct the driver and I do not have too as I get confused. A diversion is my worst nightmare.

I am now so distressed. I plan to go for mandatory reconsideration but looking for any tips. I have already printed out all you guides but looking for anything from someone with a variable condition like MS.

Go through your PIP2, the assessment report and our PIP Claim guide to make sure that you have shown that you meet the requirements if the Descriptors. In particular have you made effective use of the terms that come under the heading of "reliably" and also, where applicable, the majority of days.

It can be tempting to deal with the issues raised in the report, I'm not saying to ignore these but you will only receive an award by scoring the points for one.

Hi could I just ask, was your pip assessment a review, or were you being moved from dla?
I only ask because you were obviously assessed with high needs before, and MS is a progressive condition.
I understand completely about your MS nurse appointments, are you taking any DMDs, I'm just wondering because of the side effects these have. Did you write this down?
I really hope you're successful in your reconsideration, and I'm sorry you're going through this.

Only ever on PIP. Was granted with no physical assessment as in middle of relapse. Take Tecfediran so lost points as easier than Copaxone injections my husband gave me. Main issue seems to be a bubbly personality (manic one could argue) and ability to get around by manual car and can listen to a mobile telling me where to go. Usually accompanied and only drive when able. Never drive more than 7 mi!es to hospital for spots, and never somewhere I do not know. Now will need to get rid of car as can't afford it and put on hold the new shower with seat to stop me sitting on shower floor.
