Replied by Maggie on topic PIP assessments - losing all payments
I don't think a medication has to be PRESCRIBED by a health care practitioner to count - if it's RECOMMENDED I think that's good enough. I fell foul of same rule over Vitamin D that was initially *prescribed* because my levels were low. But my GP *recommended* I continued with it as I hardly leave the house, and certainly cover up in sun (skin probs). Could have gone back for more prescriptions but didn't want to waste GP's time, plus it's available over counter anyway, so we just bought it ourselves. Anyway, I'm rambling now!

I think it's in the DWP guidance to assessors, 2016.

Activity 3 – Managing therapy or monitoring a health condition
This activity considers a claimant’s ability to:
(i) appropriately take medications in a domestic setting that are
prescribed or recommended by a registered doctor, nurse or
pharmacist;
(ii) monitor and detect changes in a health condition; and
(iii) manage therapeutic activities that are carried out in a domestic setting
that are prescribed or recommended by a registered doctor, nurse,
pharmacist or healthcare professional regulated by the Health
Professions Council.
The outcome of this activity is taking the medication or completing the
recommended therapy as prescribed / recommended, without which the
claimant’s health is likely to deteriorate.

I have ME/CFS, so also a variable condition. I don't know if the above notes will be of any use to you, but thought it worth sharing. Good luck with your MR. Best wishes from Liverpool, Maggie.
