I am wondering if anyone else has been called up for an assessment without recently being sent a questionnaire to complete?
I was transferred from Incapacity Benefit to ESA, after a medical, in April 2012.
Last January (2016) I received a capability for work questionnaire to fill in which I duly did and sent back, before the March deadline date. I assumed I would be called up for an assessment but in fact I didn't have any communication from the DWP regarding that questionnaire.
However, on 10th March this year, I received an appointment for an assessment, to take place on the 29th March ( tomorrow morning). I rang the DWP to say I hadn't had a questionnaire and they said to just attend the assessment. So I'm left wondering, will the assessor be referring to my submitted form of 12 months ago? Obviously, I photocopied that before posting it so I have been able to read my responses to the questions but if I was filling in the form now, I would approach it differently, using tips from this site.
Does anyone know if it is unusual to have an assessment out of the blue, as it were, or are they dealing with a very long backlog and this appointment is based on my answers of last year?

The title of your post is "DLA renewal assessment", but it would seem more likely that this is a reassessment of your ESA claim, as the DWP are not reassessing DLA claims on the UK mainland.

Have a look at the following

Invited to a face to face assessment but no ESA50 sent

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

I filled in my ESA50 form and sent it back and waited 2 years for a face to face assessment. I had totally forgotten id even filled in the ESA50 and thought they had got it wrong too but thankfully remembered at the last minute. I to had photocopied the ESA50 but as you say i would most definitely have approached it differently with the help from this site. As a result of my F2F i scored 0 points and got found fit for work (that doesn't mean it will happen to you) so i requested a Mandatory Reconsideration which I'm now 10 weeks waiting for the decision.

If i get turned down i will definitely be going to appeal. I am now questioning if i should if need be add this into my appeal that i waited 2 years for a F2F and how that could cause issues where i have maybe answered differently to questions at F2F compared toy ESA50 form. 2 Years is a long time, 1 year is a long time. My only concern is that my airing of this potential failure on DWP part might spark a complete new application with fresh ESA50 form and new F2F. Not sure i could go through it all again but would if it would benefit me. It all depends on if my MR is turned down and if they feel there are any issues with form answers and F2F answers. Nightmare.

Hi Dt,

You could certainly argue that the information in your ESA50 was out of date by the time the decision was made. It could also help explain any apparent conflict between what you said on your form and what you have said since. However, it really depends on how much the assessor relied on the form when making their decision (compared with their findings at the face2face).

The appeal panel will probably be more interested in hearing from you about your limitations.
