I find the hold thing sickening and not sure how to go, as i am at university and cant help her as i would like to. any advice would be appreciated

Hi jj,

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm sorry that your mum is going through this :(

The first thing I suggest you do is have a look at our PIP guide so that you understand the criteria against which your mother is being measured.

PIP help for claimants

Many of our appeal resources talk about ESA claims but the system for PIP is pretty much the same.

Appeal FAQs

Waiting times for tribunals can be variable but I would expect most cases to have been heard in 3-6 months

I'm sure you will have further questions when you have read through these, please come back and we will do our best to help.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your mother's PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

I'm afraid the criteria for ESA are sufficiently different that it is more than possible to be awarded one and not the other.

I think it unlikely that her GP will be able to write anything of value if she has not seen him recently. You can request a copy of her medical notes.

Requesting your medical records
