Change Of Circumstances - DLA? was created by nwflyboy
Hi Guys,

My dad has been in receipt of DLA (Mobility) for about 12 years, he's 75. I believe that as he was 65 before 2013, his award has just carried on. He lives with his wife (my mum), who is 70.

His condition is quickly deteriorating following recent medical interventions - his continence, remaining mobility and faculties have all taken a big hit. What options are available to him? I believe he would pass the PIP test for personal care. I've also read that Attendance Allowance might be an option.

I've googled and searched, but I can't find any guidance on the matter at all. Any ideas much appreciated.

Thanks very much.

He can't claim PIP as he is over 65 and he can't claim Attendance Allowance as he has a DLA award.

He needs to think carefully about asking for his claim to be looked at.

If he has a Lower Rate Mobility award then this cannot be increased now that he is over the age of 65, whether he meets the criteria for HRM of not.

He must show that he meets the criteria for Medium or Higher Rate Care, a Lower Rate Care award cannot be made over the age of 65.

Have a look at our DLA Claim guides for more information.
