Hello,

This is my first post and I apologise if it is in the wrong place.

This is a great site and my sister and I used the member guides for my PIP mandatory reconsideration last year. From 0 points to 9 on daily living and a 3 year award. I also got 4 on the mobility. I had applied the year before, got 0 points and didn't even think to contest it then.

I have been on contribution based ESA since late 2015. Got put in the support group without a medical assessment. Just had a face to face assessment and have been told I am to remain in the support group. I thought I would be taken off to be honest. I broke down, couldn't manage to look at the assessor, needed the door left open and it was quite brief as I had to get out of there.

My question is should I ask for the assessment report and then request a review of my PIP award as I think I am entitled to the standard mobility and enhanced daily living.

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts to help me decide.

Thanks

Congratulations on your recent ESA SG Award and thanks for your positive feedback ! :)

You can request all ESA documentation pertaining to your recent SG award, see This Post

I don't know when your 3 year PIP awards were given, but you should be aware that your review will start one year before the end date of the award period.

So if your 3 year PIP award was given in 2015 to 2018, you should receive your review form, sometime in 2017.

There is nothing wrong with using an ESA medical report in support of a PIP assessment.

However, as you probably know, the qualifying criteria for ESA and PIP differ quite a lot.

So would the recent ESA medical report help you to score the extra 3 points needed to obtain an Enhanced Daily Living Award and are you sure that you can score the extra 5 points that you will need for a Standard PIP Mobility award.

It all depends what ESA descriptors have been applied to you in the SG award.

e.g. An ESA SG Award for ESA Activity 1 "Mobilising" should be a good indication that you should also qualify for a PIP Standard Mobility Award.

You should be aware that PIP recipients have received lesser awards on review or lost their awards all together.

It is therefore important that you risk assess the safety of your current awards before requesting a review. (e.g. You only have 9 points for PIP DL, this only gives you one point to play with to keep your Standard DL Award, and you need to gain another 3)

Whether to request a review or to await your normal review is only a decision that you can make.

Hi bro58,

I just typed up a quick response but had to log back in and didn't receive a confirmation message, so not sure if it was submitted.

Thank you for your reply. It was very helpful.

I will request the ESA assessment report and base my decision on that. If I decide not to request an early review, then I will wait for until I am sent a PIP renewal form next year (award runs out 2019).

I could always claim ESA Income related as I am on contribution based only. I meet the criteria for it and it would cover healthcare costs such as prescriptions.

Thanks again,
Shaf

Hi S,

If you wish to be assessed for IR ESA, you need to request and fill in an ESA3 Form from ESA.

This will be used to assess your personal and financial situation for entitlement to payment of IR ESA.

It will not be used to assess your capabilities or effect your SG award.

Asset rule for receipt of IR ESA

24 hour work rule for payment of IR ESA

If you are entitled to any IR ESA, it should be paid as top-ups to your CB ESA payments and there is no time limit for back dating of IR ESA payments.
