PIP in Northern Ireland was created by kah22
As many of you might know because of political haggling PIP did not happen here at the same time as it did in the rest of the UK. So forgive me if I'm going over old ground

My partner has bipolar and has been sectioned three times in four years she is now been reassessing for PIP and we are awaiting the outcome of the application. She was on DLA medium rate care, low rate mobility

Can anyone advise me if there is any difference between the assessments here in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

While I appreciate that this can only be a general view can you give us some sort of an opinion as to how bipolar and other serious mental conditions are been treated by the government. I appreciate this can only be a private view.

Finally what is the normal award for those with bipolar

Many thanks for any information or advice you can offer

I would not expect there to be any differences in the assessment process for Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK.

Remember it is bot the condition that is being assessed but rather the limitations that result from them that will be assesses.

Mental health is often poorly understood by those assessing claimants for PIP as the problems that it causes are often minimised. Please make sure to use the PIP Claim guide to help you complete the PIP2 and pay particular attention to the use of "reliably" where applicable.

If you have more questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Hi,

I don't normally respond to other people's posts, but I could see your worried.

I have two pip reassessments on mental health grounds only and I am extremely lucky both were done on paper based assessments, the last one only a couple of weeks ago and I got a 4 year renewal.

If you follow the guides, they really help, but also I submitted all information, copies of letters from anybody involved in my treatment. On the decision letter, they stated a number of times I was using appropriate medication and had medical input.

Basically what I am saying is, use copies of letters, hospital admission letters etc, I have also encountered a number of people at the hospital I am an outpatient at and they have transferred from DLA to Pip no problem, in fact most of them have said they seem to be treated more fairly under Pip.

I wish you good luck and hope the above helps

Regards
Mick
