Electric wheelchairs was created by TracyMS
Hi everyone
I wanted to ask in respect of electric wheelchairs, I already get ESA/SG and today received a renewal form.. I cannot see anywhere in the mobility section for Electric wheelchairs which is what I use as due to illness I am unable to use a manual one, not sure what I should do?
many thanks in advance

ESA does not consider the use of an electric wheelchair!

You must explain in detail;

- why you cannot walk with or without suitable aids and
- why you cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair

It may be obvious to you why you cannot do these things, but you cannot assume that those assessing you will come to the same conclusions.

Thank you Gordon, the wheelchair service changed mine from a manual to an electric years ago, due to nature of my illness I cannot use a self propelled.. do I add in that it has been provided by the wheelchair service?

Tracy

Yes, definitely mention that the electric wheelchair has been provided by the NHS.

Oh dear I think I might have boo-boobed on my esa form! I didn't mention that the NHS wouldn't give me an electric one, only an attendant one because of my sleep apnoea, something to do with public liability, just told me I could get myself one but they couldn't supply one! I just put I had been assessed and given an attendant wheelchair, will this make a difference?

Thanks Mags

I wouldn't expect it to make much/any difference to the mobility descriptor but it might have counted in your favour if you hope to score any points because of the sleep apnoea.
