ESA and supporting info was created by Orangeblossom
Hi, I got a new ESA50 yesterday. I'm in the support group, risk category due to severe MH and also a severe physical condition which can require hospitalisation of not managed well at home.

I have a query about the info required with the form. It says not to send 'letters about other benefits' or printouts about general info about your condition.

However in the past with PIP I think such fact sheets were helpful. Also the PIP letter shows high level of support needed (enhanced care)

Not sure whether to include these or not. Any advice welcome. Many thanks.

OB

It's your claim, you can send what you want.

Treat this as a new claim for ESA and complete the form in detail and provide any evidence that you believe to be relevant, even if you have sent it before.

Make sure that you use the current ESA Claim guides as there have been updates to the DWP guidance in the last year.

They would have the previous ESA Medical reports to check as part of the process? Just checking as we have copies as well, not sure whether to include or not. I think it says they do check them as part of their reassessment process.

You can't guarantee that they will or if they do that they will look at them, our recommendation is to include the information yourself that way you have an opportunity to integrate it into your answers on the ESA50.

I noticed that while the form discourages you from sending in letters about other benefits, it also says this information may be used to decide your eligibility for other benefits. A bit confusing really. Not very joined up, is it.

I don't think DWP can ever be accused of having 'joined-up thinking'!
