I take care of my wife who has multiple autoimmune diseases and is disabled. She had the highest rate for care and mobility with an indefinite award for DLA. She was put into the protected group for ESA.I filled in the dreaded PIP forms with the great help from this sight. Our problem is that because my wife has no hope of a cure and that her health will continue to deteriorate she is not routinely seen by any Specialists her Neurologist told us that my wife will need Palliative care. She also uses slow release Morphine Heart Medication Asthma medication Nebuliser, she has an adapted toilet, stair lift and uses a wheel chair (not self propelled) She suffers with anxiety caused by sexual abuse and neglect. She also suffers with seizures and can't be left on her own. She was called into a face to face meeting with ATOS .I was shocked at this, it is cruel and unnecessary. Anyway I took her to the face to face meeting. The assessment was done by a Canadian nurse, she began by saying "I see you have an awful lot of serious health issues, well we don't have a lot of time we only have an hour so just answer the questions I ask no more" My poor wife was exhausted by the time the nurse was finished. The meeting ended abruptly, when the nurse announced that the hour was up she had no time for anything else, as she had a lot of people she needed to see. In my opinion the assessments are not fit for purpose, the whole thing is a shambolic waste of taxpayers money and an insult to our hard working GP's and Specialists. I have no problem with people being checked out. But our GP's and patients records should suffice. Three weeks have passed and we have heard nothing from the DWP. As soon as we get the results I will post them. I think it might be a good idea if all those with long term serious health conditions who are subjected to these degrading stressful checks, should contact their MP make them aware of how bad things have become for the disabled. I wish everyone involved the very best of luck.
