PIP refused (ex DLA) other benefits cut? was created by Millie'smum
HI. I am new to forum and trying to sort daughter's finances. Our 24 year old daughter has had language processing difficulties and problems with her short term memory and cognitive ability (learning disability) since birth/early years and was given a Statement of Special Educational Need in Middle School. She has received DLA on indefinite award since then but has now had it refused as transferring to PIP. A Tribunal hearing has been agreed. Unfortunately we do not have power of attorney etc over our daughter's bank account but are now in the process of trying to sort her finances out due to overspending and ignoring letters from Benefits dept advising her payments have decreased or stopped. My question is, as she has had her DLA stopped since February 2017, we have today discovered that her Income Support has now been halved as she presumably does not qualify for the disabled element to this payment. Is this correct? ( I imagine that as she no longer qualifies for DLA in their opinion, they cannot pay her the extra disability element?) She had ignored this and consequently, her bank account is now overdrawn and we have to sort it out. She has a toddler to care for and is claiming the other associated benefits but is currently looking for part time work. She did manage to find one job but they sacked her within two weeks as she could not remember what to do and they wouldn't give her the extra time she needs to learn something. She is receiving £600 per month less since her DLA was not transferred to PIP and now only has a small amount left to pay for food, clothes, etc once all her household bills are paid. Does anyone know whether they have reduced Income Support in general since February 2017 or will it be because of the PIP refusal? Thank you.

There is a Disability Premium that is paid with Income Support and this would be stopped if she lost her DLA and was not awarded PIP.
