Hi. could any of the members please advise me on the following. my G.P referred me to a heart specialist as i keep having heart flutters and irregular heart beats. after having two heart tests its come to light i have a hole in my heart and need to have surgery to correct this. i now have trouble getting my breath back after walking short distances and even climbing up a flight of stairs is some days too much for me. i currently receive the lowest level of dla which is for my inability to use my left arm after being attacked by two staffordshire bull terriers.
the question being could i put in another claim for the higher dla award or am i pushing my luck.
regards john

Hi,

I'm afraid it wouldn't be possible for anyone to advise you about whether you would qualify for a higher award.

There's information in the physical health DLA guide about the mobility component, which may be relevant depending on how far you can walk without severe discomfort.

The guide also explains what you need to show in terms of the care component to qualify for the middle rate.

Do bear in mind that if you ask to have your award looked at again it can go down rather than up.

Good luck,

Steve

I don't know that it would be worth re-applying. If you are waiting for a PFO hole in the heart closure it shouldn't take too long. The surgery should rectify the complaints you are having so it's unlikely they will award you for a short period.
I had my hole in the heart closed a few months ago and am much better, I hope it goes well for you.
