The person carrying out the assessments are now called a Disability Analyst. They may be a doctor, nurse, physio or OT. They are supposed to be fully qualified in their field, and have further training in benefit based disability assessment.

I'm sorry that the nurse carrying out your assessment appears to have done it rather badly. Although there are no official statistics on the success rates since other health professionals have been recruited, anecdotal evidence suggests things have improved, but this isn't the situation in your case.

Good luck with your complaint.

What anecdotal evidence?

Thank you pata 1

I hope things have improved as the stress of my unprofessional assessment is terrible and it's taking all my time and the little energy I have to keep writing to people to try to address the unfairness of it all.

Steve Donnison posted a while ago about the success rate for medicals being more successful since nurses, physio's and OT's started doing assessments.

However, as I said it's anecdotal, but the purpose of these medicals isn't to diagnose conditions, it's to assess the level of care and/or mobility needs a DLA claimant may have, so perhaps when the statistics are released, it may show that these health care professionals can do better assessments than doctors ?

Hi carol, no mine wasnt in croyden, I think its a case of they are all the same, whats really hurt me the most is I have tried to get back into employent on my good days, applying for jobs, but I get obsessive and stay awake all night applying until I am making myself ill, some days I am that anxious I cant even answer the phone, I go to bed at 5-6 am because of the insomnia, so until I have got my condition under control, theres not much chance of me getting into work, I desperatly want to be back in work, because I cant afford to live on benefits, but they are actually making me worse rather than supporting me, I dont think until someone has been through anxiety and depression, they can understand how delibitating it can be. I dont even have a wro..who is the countess of mars x

Hi Missy,

The Countess of Mar takes up the cause of people who have ME - she is based in the house of lords and will be using the very large bundle of papers I sent her to bring up the problems with the Deputy Chief Medical officer for the DWP that people like me with ME/CFS +anxiety + depression are having with Atos assessments!

I don't know where your based but I phoned the CAB and they made me an appointment to see a WRO and she helped me lodge my appeal-Is it possible for you to do the same?

I really do feel for you as I know how it feels not sleeping properly - I'm now on anti anxiety pills to take at bedtime but they just make me even more tired but not enough to sleep as I've got all this worry on my mind with DWP/ATOS:(

Maybe your GP could refer you somewhere for some support like mine did?

It's so unfair that we have to go through all this stress as it only makes the stress and depression worse.

Try not to worry too much Missy

Take care

Carole x
