ESA Points System 7 years 1 week ago #13145

Hi All.... I'm a bit confused how the points system works on the ESA/Atos assessment...Has anybody got any idea how many points you need to go into the support group.. ?

you need 15 to qualify for esa wrag, but to get in the support group you have to meet some of their very rigid descriptors.
I got 51 points and they put me in the wrag, but I complained and within a week they placed me in the support group.
I told them i would take the issue up with my mp.

Hi Anthony

It is rather confusing. This is why Benefits and Work have produced some excellent guides to help you through the process. These are available at

Inclusion in the ESA support group is not based on scoring points.

To be placed in the support group, you have to satisfy one or more of the descriptors in appendix 3 of this document HERE.

CD (or whoever) a point of clarification if I may; does the decison whether you are placed into the Support Group of ESA come in part from what details you include in the ESA50 form that you fill out?

From my own personal experience, I think it is a combination of the ESA50 questionnaire, the report of the medical assessment(points score and medical info from your own doctor for them to decide that your illness or disability has a severe effect on your ability to work.
