TOPIC: Summoned to a WFI

Summoned to a WFI 7 years 5 days ago #13373

Despite my IB supposedly lasting until July 2012 and my DLA being renewed until the same date, I've just received a summons to a Work Focused Interview.:(

I'm not at all sure that I can even get there, let alone think about work, but though I keep trying the phone number on the dreaded letter the phone either keeps ringing endlessly or I get the engaged tone.

I'm in a total panic about this... any advice? Should I try writing to them?

If you are trying to have the WFI deferred or waived and as you are having difficulty contacting the DWP by telephone, you really have no option but to send a letter.

Ensure that you send the letter by recorded delivery so there is evidence of receipt by the DWP, thereby avoiding possible benefit sanctions.

Hi Angela,

You could ring your local Jobcentre Plus and tell them that you cannot make it. I've heard of WFI's being conducted over the 'phone.

The Employment Adviser (EA) also has the power to postpone it.

The only requirement for a WFI is that you have to have one if the EA says so, but that's the only requirement, you do not have to follow any advice given, for example part-time work or training course.

Chapter and verse HERE

Hope this helps.

Thank you for these helpful suggestions. Feeling slightly calmer now!

I will keep trying to get them on the phone. It's the advisor at the jobcentre plus whose phone number is given, although the WFI is elsewhere with someone else and I have no phone number for them.

Failing that I will write to the jobcentre plus advisor. The WFI appointment isn't until the 31st.

Thanks again :)

Hi.
I have an appt for a pathways to work interview next thursday is this the same type of thing?

I had an appt today with the mental health nurse as i suffer from severe depression anxiety and panic attacks as well as other health problems.I am in the middle of a claim for ESA.

I told her i had to go to this appt next week and she said theres no way she thinks i am up to attending this.
She has told me to phone them and ask them to cancel it and to give them her phone no and she will tell them i am not up to it.

What do you think?
Do you think they will listen to her?

Hi Karen,

Other people will know more than me, but I'd think it's worth trying.

Like you I have mental health problems (depression, anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia) as well as physical ones (peripheral neuropathy & fibromyalgia to name but two!) and the thought of having to attend this WFI just terrifies me. I know I simply can't get there without having a panic attack.

Good luck with getting your WVI waived. It's good that you have a nurse to support you.

Take care of yourself, :)
