TOPIC: Household Income - what does it include

Household Income - what does it include 6 years 11 months ago #13582

Can anyone tell me where the figure for household income comes from? Have had my claim for income-based ESA stopped because of a "change in income". We get child support payments which I think count; what about working tax credit? Also, we have an adult working daughter living at home. Do they count her as contributing? If so how much??? Could there be anything else? Have no idea at all where they get their figure from. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi,

I'm afraid that the only completely reliable way to know what your income is for benefits purposes is to get a benefits check done at an advice agency. But yes, there would in most - but not all - cases be a non-dependant deduction if you have an adult in work living with you.

You really need to find out from the DWP how they have calculated your income and what the change they think has taken place actually is. You also need to put in an appeal within the time limit of one month if you think they have got it wrong.

Good luck,

Steve Donnison

Hi,

You can always contact the Benefits Enquiry Line (BEL) free on 0800 882200 and they can do a benefits check and provide an explanation for you.

Although this service is provided by the DWP, they don't have access to any of your records, and you don't even need to give your name if you wish.

Hope this helps.

Pat
