As Crazydiamond and Mary have indicated, it's not mandatory to make an appeal using form GL24, it can be made in a letter, so long as the letter makes it clear that the claimant wants to appeal the decision they've been sent.

However, just to make sure that there's no misunderstanding, we always advise members to use the explanatory leaflet and appeal form which can be downloaded from the DirectGov website Appeal against a benefit decision (leaflet GL24)
