TOPIC: Exemptions from PCA?

Exemptions from PCA? 6 years 11 months ago #14045

Please could someone help me with a problem I am having regarding having to fill in an IB 50 when I thought I was exempt from examination, under the link above.

And the illness being as follows,

(A progressive impairment of Cardio-respiritory function which severely and persistently limits effort tolerance)

On Friday I receved an IB50 from Bootle (ATOS so telephoned the jobcentre plus in Preston, who told me that I had to fill it in even though I was exempt.
I have wrote them a letter saying that it must be sent in error.

Then this morning the jobcentre in Preston phoned and said I had to fill it in, and exemption only lasts for three years.

Am I right in thinking that the IB50 is part of the PCA, and how can they class me three years ago in that illness category and think I will be ok now.

Have I got to fill in this or are they right?

All this stress is making me feel even worse than I already am.

I also get the feeling that the staff in this Preston jobcentre do not seem to know what they are doing, it was better when done in Blackpool.

Hoping you can help.

Thanks all and have a Merry Christmas and happy new year.

Hi all

Just spoken to the jobcentre in Preston.

And they say that the IB113 no longer has to be sent to your GP, is this correct.

I got this info from your IB2 download.

You advice says they have to send the IB113 before issuing an IB50.

Who is correct!, and should I send the template letter?

Seeing as no replies, will take it that the info on site is no longer correct.

And the Jobcentre are right.:(

Feel like I have wasted £18.50 now.

Sorry to hear you think you've "wasted £18.50" but like all of us on here we just need to patient and await replys to our posts.
According to the link you have put above then you are excempt and you could either qoute that when you ring DWP or send them a copy of it.

I don't know where DWP get the idea of excemption being valid for three years but I got in the support group for ESA and I was told I'll be assessed again in three years time.
Quite frankly I don't have a problem with having to fill out another IB50 form in three years time, I'll just do as the DWP ask of me.

Hi Bentley,

I'm sorry you haven't had a definitive reply. However, we have had two moderators off on long term sick leave, and not all moderators are benefits advisers, but all are volunteers, so it can take a while to reply as detailed in

To the best of my knowledge you should be exempt from the PCA and not been sent an IB50, but some JobCentre Plus offices are sending them out in error. See this link which explains about exemptions for IB claimants HERE and as far as I'm aware exemptions don't just last for 3 years. When I was on IB, I was exempt as I have multiple sclerosis. I never received an 1B50 in all the years I was in receipt of IB and thankfully am now on State Pension.

However, if you feel you have wasted £18.50 which is for access to the guides in the members area, then you should e-mail : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'm sure he'll refund your subscription, if that's what you want.

Kind regards.

Thank you for replying Jim,

Ignore the wasted £18.50 bit, that's me just in a mood from all this rubbish with the IB50, and the way the staff talk down to me when I phone them, so sorry there.

But they tell me that exemption does not mean that they cannot issue an IB50.

With regards to the IB113, they no longer send them out, but when my wife mentioned that form they wanted to know how she knew about it.

I have sent out the letter quoting that S.I to Atos in Bootle.

And also the Template letter about them not sending the IB113 to my GP first.

Regards all and Merry Christmas.
