Hi,

Yes, anyone in receipt of N.I. credits for qualifying benefits are classed the same as an actual N.I. contribution.

Currently a man has to have 44 years of contributions/credits to claim full State Pension when they reach retirement age and a woman 39 years.

However, from 2010, in line with new legislation, it will be 30 years of contributions/credits for both men and women.

Regards.

Jim

Hiya gcutd and Jima 1,

Sorry to step in but this is of interest to me too .

I think what gcutd is trying to say (as is my situation too), we are both on IB , which is cont based , and when migrated will we both go on ESA (cont based) when migrated? (rather than income based)

This also raises the issue that are NI credits while on IB , qualifying credits for either a new JSA claim or a future ESA claim?

It makes no real difference to me , cont or income based but would make a difference to couples in certain circumstances .

Cheers
Rich

Hi Rich,

For each full week (Sunday to Saturday) of your IB/ Employment and Support Allowance, you should be able to get National Insurance credits. These credits can help you get other money in future, such as State Pension.

Full chapter and verse is on the JobCentre Plus site HERE

Hope this helps, now offline until tomorrow.
